Parent University – Learn the hidden parts of social media apps

Parent University SafeSmartSocial.comJosh OchsHello, I’m Josh.
Every week I host a Facebook Live session teaching parents how to use the apps their kids are on.

This program is normally $29/month (but for a limited time you can lock it in for $9/month) and will save you countless hours of research as we show you how to protect your family.

We will show you practical social media tips to keep students safe (and positive) online.

Josh, your program empowered me this week with my kids. After watching your video, I caught my kid off guard when I said “I know what the new Snap Map feature is on Snapchat that came out yesterday.” My kids said “How?!?!” I said “I’m not telling you, but let’s use Snapchat together and I’ll show you a few fun features.” Josh, your program empowered me and now I’m up to speed with my kids! Thank you! – Mom from Beverly Hills, CA.

Here’s an example of an interview we do each week with digital safety experts:

Private messaging capabilities on apps are where we find things start to get more dangerous for students.

Parent University Episode 001:
Almost every app has private messaging capabilities.
The main thing to look out for with apps that students are using is private messaging. Private messaging capabilities are where we find things start to get more dangerous for students. Almost every app has private messaging capabilities. Parents need to know how it works and they need to let their kids know what is appropriate to send in a private message. Teens are spending the most time on messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Kik Messenger. It’s important to understand what it looks like on your child’s phone, even just becoming familiar with the icon can be super helpful for parents.

Parent University Episode 003:
Set positive family boundaries with your kids early and often.
Dianna Flett and Jill Samonian join us and talk about practical tips parents can use to make sure kids are not losing out on social skills when on their phones. They suggest parents not allow kids to have phones around the dinner table, in the bedroom and to set up an anniversary talk to discuss boundaries each year. Jill also suggest that parents manage how long kids are looking at their screen (and to set goals for screen time by discussing what is going to happen before the screen time starts). Jill also doesn’t allow her kids to have screen time on road trips.

Social media has nothing to do with building social skills.
